The Days the Music Lived
From the Nominator
With the 50th anniversary of Woodstock approaching, the editor, being of the Woodstock generation, thought the culturally defining music festival deserved a fond remembrance. The occasion was greatly enhanced by correspondence with Jim Shelley, a Notre Dame grad who had not only attended the gathering of 400,000 young people but was still in the area—and a tour guide and docent at a museum there. He and his story gave the piece a strong narrative thread, a personality, and an updating into present time.
