The photo was taken by staff photographer Erik Jepsen during a lightning storm over UC San Diego's main campus library. The photo was featured in Triton Magazine and used as the basis for the issue's design.

Lightning struck both literally and figuratively in typically sunny San Diego to create this aptly named photo. The photographer was in the right place at the right time, and the result is a stunning photo that conveys so much power. But even without the lightning, the image is stunning. The architectural composition is fantastic. It’s no surprise that this electrifying photo was the most viral and distributed image of the campus last year.
