ERDA 2019 Recruitment and Onboarding Project
From the Nominator
2019 commenced with ERDA (External Relations, Development, and Alumni) feeling the impact of the skills shortages affecting the tertiary sector globally in the areas of alumni engagement and development. Driven by the insights gained from the 2019 CASE conference, Recruitment and Retention: A Global Challenge, we decided first to make our workplace as attractive to candidates as possible. We embarked on a campaign to comprehensively reposition ourselves as an employer of choice, before going to market with a renewed approach to candidate attraction. Our new approach at recruitment and retention aimed at accessing the pipeline of talent in the dynamic modern job market, and to generate excitement around ERDA and its work. Job opportunities were reframed as Expressions of Interest. By broadening the focus to the real-world impact of the incredible work done at Monash, we highlighted aspirational values over the conventional.
From the Judges
The institution developed a plan to recruit new staff and foster a positive culture. The recruitment plan involved re-writing job descriptions to provide clear information on their benefits and resources, offering training to become better allies with the LGBTQ community, and showing impact on the real world. They created marketing materials based on their values for pre-boarding and on-boarding, developed an advertising campaign, and implemented a staff referral scheme, which resulted in generating a pipeline of talented personnel.
