Ichabods Moving Forward is a student-led philanthropic organization at Washburn University that provides an opportunity for students to help other students through difficult times by fundraising for an emergency assistance fund and granting aid from that fund. Begun in fall 2017, the program has accomplished a lot in its short time. The initial focus for this group has been to raise money from other students while at the same time educating them that emergency assistance is available if needed. Grants began being awarded in 2019 and have already made lasting positive impacts on more than 10 students in need. Additionally, the group has made great strides to foster a culture of philanthropy on the Washburn University campus by raising awareness and emphasizing the importance of giving.

The judges commend this entry on its early success and the programs’ return on investment. Additionally, we felt the program had very clear goals and was strategic and thorough in execution. We felt this project deserved recognition as it serves as a model for other institutions.
