The Inauguration Celebration of President Sarah C. Mangelsdorf was a highly interactive experience, featuring 21 academic activations and six student-led performances that represented virtually every area of the University of Rochester. The festive event celebrated what makes the university special in a showcase featuring hands-on exhibits, displays, and demonstrations. Nearly 800 guests—including alumni, donors, and friends—turned out for this historic night.

All of our institutions have to do presidential inaugurations from time to time and, as academic ceremonies, they have a certain structure to them. And they can often be complicated by the fact that the new leader is just that—new—and that can lend itself to a kind of generic-ness. But this program was really impressive. The program was creative, different, and involved many different constituents, taking an inauguration and giving it the momentum of a campaign launch. Beautifully produced graphics and materials, excellent execution of a visual timeline in the event décor, and a spectacular transformation of challenging spaces in the convention center. Really well done.
