From the Judges
The first-ever home game between Georgia and Notre Dame was one of the most anticipated games in recent history at Georgia. Something using the new LED stadium lighting was planned (what, exactly, was not known) for the beginning of the fourth quarter, so the photographer positioned himself overhead to be able to capture the lights on the crowd. Once the lights turned the stadium red, the photographer was set, and this exceptional documentary image was captured. Judges were drawn to “Red Alert” for a variety of reasons. The energy of the crowd. The all-encompassing focus. The composition. The photo was also a stark reminder of how things have changed. “Seeing all those people, it struck me as to how different the world is now,” one judge said.
