Wake Forest Magazine Leadership and Character Issue
From the Nominator
Wake Forest Magazine’s mission is to tell the powerful stories of Wake Foresters who are doing good and doing well in the spirit of the university’s motto, Pro Humanitate (for humanity). Our "Leadership and Character" issue in Fall 2019 generated a strong positive response from alumni who were happy to see our exploration of whether and how to teach students about character and leadership, and to learn the insights alumni have to share. They were able to see how their alma mater is leading the way in higher education on this aspect of a liberal arts education. This issue meets our goals: to affirm, inform, entertain, and engage.
From the Judges
This magazine was powerful. The subjects of leadership and character are important, compelling, and inspiring. All judges noted the beautiful cover, illustrations, hand-drawn typography, and creative use of white space throughout. We also appreciated the commitment to the topic throughout the entire issue, rather than having regular departments alongside features with a common theme. We also enjoyed reading how professors incorporate the principles of leadership and character into their curriculum and why those attributes matter, as well as the commentary written by alumni.
