The 1881 Collection Booklet
From the Nominator
Coinciding with the 140th anniversary of Caulfield Grammar School, and the 40th anniversary of co-education, a new academic uniform was launched in late 2020, to be worn from 2021. This was the first major update to the academic uniform since the introduction of female students at Wheelers Hill Campus in 1981.
As part of the communications strategy devised to support the launch, a full-colour, full-size booklet, an A4 small magazine, was created. It contains not only a “wardrobe-by-wardrobe” outline of the uniform and its items–with imagery featuring current students, but also explores the path to its creation, background on the designer, FAQs, and a history of the uniform from 1881 to present.
This booklet was a critical launch communication piece, acting as a single source of truth for current families, an information piece for new and prospective families, and a historical record of this change. It was printed and posted to all current families (except parents of students finishing in 2020) and those of students confirmed to start in coming years.
It was also published as an eBook, and made available on the school’s website and community platform, CaulfieldLife. The booklet was created in collaboration with the Uniform Steering Committee led by Director of Community Engagement Sue Sonego. Production was managed by School Marketing & Communications team member Nick Renwick, who compiled and wrote the content, ensured it was on brand, and creatively brought to life the new uniform story and benefits.
From the Judges
Thoughtful approach, and we loved the inclusion of the Q&A, designer profile, historic photos, etc. We enjoyed the photography and layout overall. Nice editorial spin on what could have been a dull transactional handout.
