The Alumni Around the World Video was developed as a component for UBC Okanagan's “Homecoming at Home” program. Typically alumni volunteers play an integral role in the implementation of Homecoming. As a result of COVID-19, our Homecoming celebrations turned virtual. We wanted to ensure that volunteers remained engaged with campus and felt involved. As a result of previously re-imagined events due to COVID-19, we had discovered a pleasant side effect was that we were able to engage volunteers around the world in programming that would typically have required them to be face-to-face with us in the Okanagan. The idea of the Alumni Around the World was to show in a fun way that, no matter where in the world our alumni are, they are all connected and can assist and stay involved with the UBC community in so many different ways. Although the video was developed specifically for Homecoming, it was picked up as part of UBC news, and resulted in many alumni responding to say how grateful they were to be a part of the project and others how happy it made them just to view the video.

The Alumni Around the World video concept was very well executed, especially using paper airplanes to illustrate the countries alumni represented. Great way to keep alumni connected with minimal effort. This is also great project for a small staff with an even smaller budget.
