Black Lives Matter
From the Nominator
The summer of 2020 saw the United States’ biggest protests for racial justice and civil rights in a generation. George Floyd’s death in Minneapolis gave a global profile to the Black Lives Matter movement that has emerged in recent years to protest the deaths of African Americans in police custody. In the middle of the pandemic, tens of thousands of people took to the streets to demand change. UC San Diego community members marched with thousands downtown to protest police brutality and systemic racism. Captured by staff photographer Erik Jepsen, this photo was posted across UC San Diego's social media, and online publications to support our community's peaceful protests and civil discourse to counter hate and injustice.
