Desktop Calendar
From the Nominator
The HKUST Desktop Calendar 2021 is an institutional souvenir for our alumni, students, guests, and visitors. The calendar was designed with a stand to hold calendar cards. Our theme message was related to sustainability and the environment, highlighting various smart ideas, novel technologies, and sustainable policies developed by the HKUST community members as part of our “Sustainable Smart Campus as a Living Lab” initiative. We used FSC recycling paper for the entire design. To cope with the theme of sustainability, we minimize the usage of paper by embedding QR code on calendars, allowing users to learn more about the university's effort in sustainability from their mobile.
From the Judges
The entire piece was thoughtfully constructed, and reflects the institution's sustainability policies and values in its design, choice of paper, and use of QCR codes that enhance the experience of print to online. It is a clean and aesthetically pleasing piece. One of the most interesting elements is the base design and use of unique-sized, tall, slender folded paper that creates an architectural and sculptural feel well beyond the typical standard desktop calendar design. It has the appearance of floating gracefully like a swan on a pond or sailboat on a calm sea. A very high-end and attractive piece.
