#MoveInMiami
From the Nominator
The unpacking was different this year. The generosity of Miamians everywhere was not.
Together, alumni and friends of Miami University made for another record-breaking #MoveInMiami effort. The annual day of giving welcomed the Class of 2024 to the Miami family with 4,804 gifts in 20 hours and 24 minutes, shattering the original goal of 2,024 gifts by early afternoon.
The 2020 campaign generated $2,377,809 in support of Miami students, making this year the best—for both participation and dollars raised—in #MoveInMiami’s seven-year history.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Miami took a phased approach to returning students to its campuses. Remote instruction began Aug. 17, with the fall move-in date shifting to the week of Sept. 14. While this changed the landscape of move-in day, it didn’t change the intent of the university’s annual day of giving.
The motto of #MoveInMiami is “They unpack. We give back.” Although we did not have the usual activity on our campuses this year, Miamians still gave back enthusiastically. The unwavering commitment from our alumni and friends during such a challenging and uncertain time was remarkable.
Highlights from #MoveinMiami 2020 included:
- Donors ranged from the Class of 1949 to the Class of 2021.
- The Class of 2014 recorded the most gifts.
- The campaign raised an additional $60,000 for the Oxford and Regionals Emergency Needs Funds, capping off a summer-long initiative that brought in more than $800,000 to provide immediate aid to students who may have struggled to return to campus.
