Prior Center for Performing Arts Topping Out ThankView
From the Nominator
Our campus community was elated to reach a significant milestone in the construction of the Prior Center for Performing Arts at the College of the Holy Cross this past September with the “topping out” of the facility. As the most ambitious capital project of our recently completed Become More campaign, the $107-million Prior Center for Performing Arts has been designed by renowned firm Diller Scofidio + Renfro, and will be a significant arts venue in central Massachusetts. Not only will it be the creative hub of campus, providing a shared home for the performance and rehearsal programs of the theater and music departments, along with a new space for the Iris and B. Gerald Cantor Art Gallery and studios for dance, but it also will feature a 400-seat concert hall and theatre, a 200-seat studio theatre, practice and production spaces, and a media lab. The “topping out” of this watershed project would ordinarily have been an occasion to celebrate construction progress with leadership donors, institutional administration, and key stakeholders. Unfortunately, due to public health restrictions occasioned by the COVID-19 pandemic, we had to limit invitations and participation at this special event. To allow as many constituents as possible to share in the excitement, staff from several divisions collaborated to produce a three-minute video that captured the significance and meaning of this historic moment.
From the Judges
This really does share a lot of information in two minutes for anyone (donors especially) who was not able to be present. The story of the building is told well within the context of the college's culture. Great and exciting building for Holy Cross!
