From the Nominator
Jane Elliott became famous in the 1960s for her famous “blue eyes/brown eyes” experiment that opened the nation's eyes to how racism is spread. After the 2020 murder of George Floyd, videos of her once-radical discussions of race repeatedly went viral, as a new generation discovered her, and Jimmy Fallon and others rushed to interview her. We caught up with the 86-year-old, who is friends with Killer Mike and T.I., at her rural Iowa home.
From the Judges
Fantastic profile, with a creative introduction. This could have been approached as a feature article, but it worked very well as a news article. The writer wisely included the time element (relevance) at the top to catch the reader's attention.
