USC Viterbi Magazine
From the Nominator
The primary purpose of USC Viterbi magazine is to act as a bridge to the Trojan engineering community. Most of these readers do not go to school here anymore. They’re not paying tuition. Many probably don’t even live in Los Angeles. Most of them live hectic, busy lives where they are drowning in stimuli, noise, and demands of their time. Often times, they only hear from us when it’s an ask for money.
Our purpose is to cut through that noise and bring some value to their day. To make them proud of this institution and their affiliation with it. For example, our Spring 2020 issue focused on a unique milestone: For the first time in the school’s 115 year history, the entering class was 50 percent women.
From the Judges
The USC Viterbi magazine was visually appealing, particularly with the use of a graphic novel. Their efforts to change the way the audience “sees” engineering were impactful to the reader, and highlighted their achievement of gender parity in enrollment. Including a game as part of the digital version, which resulted in funds raised for K-12 schools, was innovative and a great way to include the community.
