Alumni 101
From the Nominator
"Graduating? We got you!
The Cal Aggie Alumni Association invited graduating students in the class of 2021, as well as recent graduates from the class of 2020, to our first-ever series of discussions on life after college called “Alumni 101.” We gathered over Zoom with campus partners and experts to discuss the things we wish we knew about post-grad life: making friends, job searching, financial literacy, and taking a gap year before going to graduate school. The intent of this event was to connect with students before they became alumni and provide important information to show the alumni association is a valuable resource.
Attendance at each session was tracked, and we raffled off prizes to those who attended sessions to incentivize attendance. We had 108 attend the series (across the four presentations), which was impressive considering this was the first time hosting the series and was also one of the first student-focused events we have hosted that was not associated with our student alumni association. Additionally, our presentations were recorded so students could revisit the content or return to the presentations at any point.
It also provided us the ability to partner with campus partners and make sure they were aware of what the alumni association offers. We partnered with our internship and career center, pre-graduate/pre-law advising, and USE Credit Union. It was great to see our campus partners, alumni, and business partners pull together to support this population for the first time."
From the Judges
UC Davis Alumni Association’s virtual Alumni 101 “adulting” series provided an excellent engagement opportunity for soon-to-be alumni showcasing the association’s valuable services. This is an impactful, low-cost young-alumni offering.
