And Justice For All
From the Nominator
"Six students of color at the Campbell University School of Law shared their very personal experiences with race, inequality, and the lack of diversity in the justice system for our cover feature. They shared stories of harassment from law enforcement, facing racism, growing up with incarcerated family members, and their ultimate decisions to choose the justice field to change the system. Each story touches on a program or initiative launched by the law school, such as the reformative justice program or initiatives to increase diversity in the school.
Each student sat down for a one-hour interview via Zoom for the feature and took part in a photo shoot in downtown Raleigh, NC, a month later (at a time when businesses were still boarded up after BLM marches). Photographer Ben Brown shot the photos in one afternoon, choosing murals as his backdrop to provide vibrant colors and to tell a story."
From the Judges
Love this series. Great photos to show an important topic. Really strong use of location and backgrounds. The individual shots are nice, but as a whole together in the feature story, they excel.
