"The covid vaccine developed super quickly. Here’s why it’s safe."
From the Nominator
"Recognizing the public need for timely, fact-based information during the vaccine rollout, we created a video with a UC expert that explained in a dynamic and engaging way how the mRNA vaccine worked in the body. Because polling suggested vaccine-hesitant people were concerned about how quickly the vaccine was produced, we wanted to tackle the topic head-on.
Using playful animation and graphics, the video explains how humans and viruses developed hand-in-hand and how humans have fought back against viruses in the past with traditional vaccines. The video also explains how mRNA works differently and why mRNA technology means that vaccine production goes much faster.
During the credits of the video, the president of the UC Student Association makes a call-to-action for people to get vaccinated and gives instructions on how to do so. Alongside the video, we developed a companion article that expanded on the video and includes animated GIFs to make the article more engaging. This helps make the information from the video more search-friendly and also accessible to those who would rather read than watch a video.
Ultimately, the video succeeded in amplifying the COVID-19 messaging of UC’s 10 campuses and medical centers, demonstrated UC’s commitment to public health to California leaders, and built a sense of urgency among the UC community about the importance of the vaccine."
From the Judges
Excellent animation to explain how vaccine works. The inclusion of historic events was purposeful and effective. The videos keep viewers engrossed and interested. This is a good example of how outcomes should be measured and communicated.
