"Since its inception in 1909, UC Davis’s Picnic Day has been the campus’s signature event and de facto homecoming for alumni and friends. This annual open house showcases the richness, diversity, and achievement of UC Davis and the surrounding community. It features a parade, student displays, children’s activities, a battle of the bands, research presentations, and more.
When the COVID pandemic forced this beloved event to “go virtual,” the College of Engineering’s development and external relations team seized the opportunity to take the fun and excitement of Picnic Day from campus and deliver it to select alumni and friends. “Picnic Day in a Bag” was packed with school spirit to celebrate this fun tradition at home."

The Delivering Picnic Day (to College of Engineering Alumni) was a nice pivot from the traditional in-person event. This initiative allowed both alumni and staff to be engaged—and was fruitful for the development team. We liked UC Davis’ creativity and thought this was a win all around!
