Earlham College Viewbook
From the Nominator
"Earlham College just may be the best college you’ve never heard of. This community is small, but our impact on the world is big. Earlham consistently ranks among the top 100 National Liberal Arts Colleges, Best Value Colleges, and Best Undergraduate Teaching experiences according to the U.S. News & World Report; a Best Classroom Experience, Best Value, and Best School for Making an Impact according to The Princeton Review; and is one of the 40 Colleges That Change Lives.
As a liberal arts college, we have a little quirk and lot of heart. Our founders were Quakers—you know, those abolitionist, social justice-loving truth-seekers who, in the 18th and 19th centuries, had radical ideas like equal rights and public education.
Today, our students belong to many faiths and none. They come here from over 60 different countries and 40 different states. And we embrace people of all ethnicities, nationalities, abilities, cultures, and gender and sexual identities.
While Earlham has a big reputation among the groups that rank colleges and international college counselors, we’re small on name recognition among prospective students and their families—particularly in our own backyard. Rather than avoid that fact, we decided to lean into it in a distinctively Earlham way—with spirit, with passion and compassion, and a little bit of cheekiness.
Earlham may be the best college you’ve never heard of, but if we’re doing this right, we won’t be able to use that line next year."
From the Judges
Earlham's viewbook was clean, clear, consistent, and engaging. Through photography and voice, the piece highlighted all the aspects of being a student at Earlham—from academics to alumni network to opportunities to student life. We thought the copy was friendly and inviting and that this piece, in particular, highlighted an excellent use of in-house talent.
