Emily Karlzen - Arch Rift “Ready to Launch”
From the Nominator
"The photo series for an ASU Thrive magazine story titled “Ready to launch” was created for the graduation special issue celebrating and highlighting recent graduates. The story profiles alumni innovators who are utilizing seed money to pursue their dreams. It includes practical tips on how ASU alumni can do the same.
The photos feature Emily Karlzen, ’20 BS in business entrepreneurship, who describes herself as a “huge space nerd.” Her company Arch Rift aims to make commercial space tourism more comfortable—beginning with an automatically deploying oxygen helmet. The project won $15,000 in seed money when Karlzen was still a student. The photos show Emily, the inventor, wearing both her handmade prototype and a vintage flight helmet. By showing Emily with a helmet, it rapidly communicates both the purpose of her invention and is a nod to her future aspirations."
