Insulin 100: Celebrating a Century of Health Innovation
From the Nominator
"2021 marked the 100th anniversary of insulin’s discovery at the University of Toronto (U of T) and the collaborative effort that led to the development and distribution of this life-saving treatment to millions worldwide. The university leveraged this historic milestone to position U of T and its hospital partners as a biomedical powerhouse capable of delivering a century of groundbreaking discoveries, therapies, and treatments—from insulin to stem cell therapies to AI and genomics—that continue to transform human health in Canada and globally.
The Insulin 100 website served as the centerpiece of a comprehensive integrated marketing and communications campaign. Through cinematic design, subtle animation, and emotional storytelling, the website celebrates insulin's discovery, the century of innovation that followed, and the breakthrough research shaping the healthcare landscape of tomorrow.
All communications efforts (e.g., print, digital, social, out-of-home, podcasts), event collateral, and partner promotions drove people to the website as part of a highly coordinated omni-channel campaign. Since the website's launch, there have been over 266,600 page views, with an impressive average cross-site visiting time of more than four minutes and over five-and-a-half minutes for homepage-only visitors. The site received 43,000 international visitors from 177 countries, accounting for 25 percent of all users and supporting our goal of raising the university’s global profile.
These results show how we successfully created an engaging, captivating site that told the story of a century of innovation at U of T and the future of discovery that resonated with our audiences."
