Medicine@Brown Magazine
From the Nominator
"Every issue of Medicine@Brown aims to remind alumni why they went into medicine and why they are proud they did it at Brown. They should feel the tug of nostalgia and a sense of pride when they see their school going in a bold direction or another alum doing good in the world. We inspire those emotions through a mix of stories that range from the latest cutting-edge research, to a profile of an alum doing courageous work, to confronting the most difficult elements of medicine today.
When we redesigned and rebranded the magazine in 2019, we included the magic ingredient that differentiates Alpert Medical School from other schools. The Brown difference is its focus on the humanities and the liberal arts in medicine. One way to understand the human experience is through art, social science, and by exploring our natural instinct to create. This does not mean the school is not academically rigorous or equally focused on research. It means that the people who choose to study and work here are more inclined to think in terms of the person, rather than the disease, and solve problems from that approach.
The result is a very readable magazine that goes into homes three times a year and trips that feeling of "yes, that's my Brown." In fact, one alum recently told a dean, "If there's something you really want alumni to know, put it in Medicine@Brown, because you can be sure we're reading that.""
