Perlmutter Cancer Center Magazine Fall 2021
From the Nominator
"Perlmutter Cancer Center is one of 71 centers nationwide designated a “Comprehensive Cancer Center” by the National Cancer Institute. Despite its rapid growth, fueled by dramatic advances in clinical care and research over the past decade, Perlmutter Cancer Center still flies under the radar in the competitive arena of New York City. Among its marketing challenges is the outsize reputation of Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, located less than two miles away. Our mission, then, was to humanize the outstanding care that has earned Perlmutter Cancer Center a sterling, yet quiet reputation and cast a brighter spotlight on its brand values.
For this issue, we highlighted dramatic patient outcomes representative of the Center’s overarching treatment philosophy; the impact of its robust clinical-trial program on patient survival; and the advantages of receiving cancer care in an elite academic medical center with access to top-tier specialists that are so often required to treat cancer comprehensively. Among the features in this 48-page issue: an 80-year-old’s complete remission from advanced prostate cancer, thanks to immunotherapy; gynecologic oncology’s rise to #1 for patient recruitment into clinical trials; and a novel program that helps underserved women secure free or low-cost mammograms. In addition to our deep reporting, we coordinated nine photo shoots—many highlighting patients, post-cancer, doing what they love—and worked with physicians to produce compelling, informative illustrations and graphics.
Overall, the magazine’s pages are accessible and inviting, earning broad praise from executive leadership and increasing patient traffic."
From the Judges
We felt that this publication demonstrated very clear writing about some very complex topics, which is not easy to do. The storytelling really stood out in this issue.
