Portland State Magazine
From the Nominator
"Portland State Magazine strives to promote a greater sense of connection between the university and the community it encompasses, including newly minted alumni, those who graduated decades ago, faculty, staff, supporters, and friends. It is published two times a year by PSU’s Office of University Communications. With a circulation of roughly 140,000, it is the most widely-read periodical in the Portland metropolitan region.
We share the unique stories, significant accomplishments, and creativity of Oregon’s most diverse university and show how Portland State University lives its motto: “Let Knowledge Serve the City.” This year, we worked to maximize the impact of our small staff and limited resources during difficult times to celebrate the university’s 75th anniversary, honor the role of veterans in our founding, and spotlight the efforts of our community to lead Portland’s comeback from COVID-19."
From the Judges
Quirky and original, this magazine captures the essence of its institution, students, and alumni. A strong focus on storytelling makes for articles that are compelling reads. This magazine stands out from the formats and content used in many college and university magazines. Stories and photos stayed with us. Love how they chose to tell their institution’s 75th anniversary using artifacts.
