"In 2020, The University of New Mexico saw the postponement of both the spring and fall commencement ceremonies. Although postponing the event was a difficult decision for university leadership, the university communications & marketing (UCAM) team took on the challenge of celebrating our soon-to-be graduates while conveying the importance of postponing our in-person celebrations. This challenge led to the creation of "Steps Worth Waiting For," a video that was meant to reinforce COVID-19 safe practices, celebrate new graduates, and convey that a commencement ceremony would still be planned for a later date.
With lessened restrictions, the university was now able to honor its promise to graduates from the Class of 2020 and 2021 at an in-person event. "Steps Worth Taking" is the celebration of those steps that were postponed in 2020 and then taken in fall 2021. It's a continuation of the story told in "Steps Worth Waiting For" and serves to honor the advancements and growth being made by our students, faculty, and staff."
