Three Students, One Baltimore
From the Nominator
"Location is one of the often-stated reasons students choose not to attend the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health (BSPH). To teach prospective students about the benefits of Baltimore, we showcased three students’ experiences in the city through vlog-style video interviews and scenes of their life in the city.
We focused the Three Students, One Baltimore video on authentic, real student experiences, not student recruitment or school branding.
With the advice of our faculty, we were able to identify three students who each had a unique Baltimore experience: an international student, a U.S. student who moved here from another state to become a BSPH graduate student, and a student who has done her bachelor’s-PhD education in Baltimore and now resides with her family here. The video footage was unscripted. We encouraged each student to tell us their story, allow us to follow them through a regular day, and suggest filming locations based on where they go in Baltimore.
Without limiting filming to our school buildings, scripting students, or adding recruitment messaging, “Three Students, One Baltimore” is candid, authentic, and enjoyable storytelling that can stand on its own. The end product was a video that truly captures the spirit of the city of Baltimore and highlights experiences prospective students could enjoy if they enroll at BSPH."
