From the Nominator

"The Transformation of UC San Diego map provides a visual overview of the scope and depth of our campus’ decade-long intellectual, physical, and cultural transformation—from buildings where students, faculty, and researchers collaborate and innovate to venues for arts and cultural performances to new healthcare facilities designed for patient-centered medicine.   

This piece was first conceived in late 2019 as a takeaway piece for five regional events that were going to celebrate UC San Diego reaching our $2 billion campaign milestone and showcase our campus’ transformation to that point. The original maps were completed, printed, and delivered to our offices on March 2, 2020. Less than two weeks later, these regional events were canceled as the COVID-19 pandemic reached California. The map was on indefinite hold.  

Eighteen months later, as a return to some in-person events seemed imminent and the 10-year Campaign for UC San Diego was set to conclude in June 2022, we revisited the map. Although it would no longer be used at the same events, it was still important to highlight how philanthropy and our chancellor’s vision had transformed our campus.  

Featuring updated messaging and graphics, the map still highlighted significant projects—many of which were made possible through philanthropy — and demonstrated UC San Diego’s transformation into a destination campus. It also has served to drive philanthropic momentum as we approach the conclusion of the Campaign for UC San Diego in June 2022."

This is stellar. Useful to students, alumni, friends, or anyone who visits the campus. Great use of illustrations and photos. Not too busy and easy to read. Icons, photography, and design all top notch, especially for an in-house team.
