From the Nominator
"The pandemic created some new challenges for our campus community. One of the main challenges was many of our first- and second-year students would be coming to campus for the very first time.
We decided to take our community on a virtual tour of key spots on campus every week leading up to the first day of school. We wanted to give students the opportunity to see these places before stepping foot in them, offering some sense of familiarity. Each tour had a host who explained where they were, what they did, and how students can connect with that department. Some tour examples included the registrar’s office, the library, and health and wellness.
To ensure our message was getting across, each time we posted a video on social, we would include an engagement activity on Instagram stories using features like the poll and quiz to question students on what they learned in the video.
Our viewership was above average and we saw an average of 1,000 people participating in the engagement activities on Instagram stories. Because of its success, we continued this series and incorporated fun tours that students would enjoy, such as six Instagram-able spots on campus and University of Toronto in the movies."
