"Illustrator Brett Ryder teases the feature story "Creature Comfort" with a menagerie of camera-ready animals, both domestic and exotic. It's an apt introduction to our cover story about alum Thomas Edling, chief veterinary officer for American Humane and its "No Animals Were Harmed" program.
The assignment was close to Ryder's heart, as he has perhaps the "smallest dog in the world," a miniature chihuahua named Bella. "She is a fierce protector of the house, though probably not very effective," he reports.
Like with all our covers, we wanted to create a piece of art that will standout on a table, shelf, or rack and beckon people to look inside."
