150/150: People, Places, Precedents
From the Nominator
"In celebration of Boston University School of Law’s 150th anniversary, this 297-page commemorative book features 150 profiles of people, places, and events that have shaped the school and the world. As we set about working on this project, we knew we wanted to tell the story of the school through the people connected to it. After all, what is a school without its community?
We focus on the school’s history of inclusion, without shying away from where it has fallen short of its ideals, and showcase innovations in legal education, like the creation of the three-year curriculum now followed by law schools nationwide. Along the way, we celebrate many the achievements of faculty and alumni, like Takeo Kikuchi (Class of 1877), who returned to Japan after his graduation and established the English Law School, now Chuo University, in Tokyo; and Abby Rubenfeld (’79), who served as co-counsel in the 2015 Supreme Court marriage equality case Obergefell v. Hodges.
The response from the BU Law community has been overwhelmingly positive. We've given them many reasons to be proud of their school and created a keepsake that they are pleased to display in their offices and homes."
