Andover Magazine
From the Nominator
"The spring 2022 cover of Andover magazine shares a previously untold history of Abbot Academy, the girls’ school that merged with Andover in 1973. This meticulously reported story was coupled with a beautiful custom illustration infused with specific items from Abbot.
“The Comeback Coach” has all the elements of a great story: a gripping lead, a likable protagonist, a life-threatening conflict, and a happy resolution. Alumna Nora Princiotti did a bang-up job writing this story, highlighting her talent as a sports journalist.
This was one of our most impactful issues as measured by alumni engagement. The WPAA story on page 12 garnered so much feedback that we shared alumni essays online as well as letters in the subsequent magazine. The Abbot story was seen by this alumnae group as long-overdue recognition of their impact and value to Phillips Academy, and many of them shared their perspectives with us.
The summer 2022 “Game On” was a salute to Andover’s women athletes, past and present. Stunning black and white photos were paired with colorful graphic elements to create a lively and dynamic design. We created posters of the cover and offered them to the community, and we received numerous letters from alumni about this issue. Sharing this content over social media, we had a high level of positivity: “Game On” had a 16 percent engagement rate on Instagram and NYC-based illustrator and alumna, Meredith Wing, shared the story on her Instagram, which has more than 68,000 followers, thus extending our reach."
