"Bringing Health Care to the Barber’s Chair"
From the Nominator
"The University of Maryland spearheaded a nationwide effort to enlist and train Black barbers and stylists to dispel myths and disinformation about COVID-19, as well as to provide vaccinations at their barbershops and salons. The White House elevated it under the name "Shots at the Shop" in 2021 in support of the initiative aimed at saving lives.
In this video, Stephen Thomas, School of Public Health professor and director of the Maryland Center for Health Equity, shares the story behind this #FearlesslyUMD community-engaged research in the first installment of UMD's new video series, “Enterprise: University of Maryland Research Stories.”"
