"The 'Dear World…Thank You' video celebrates the remarkable success of the £2.2bn 'Dear World... Yours, Cambridge' fundraising campaign. This campaign for the university and colleges of Cambridge launched publicly in 2015 and closed in 2022. It is one of the largest higher education campaigns in European history and one of very few outside North America to have raised more than $2 billion, thanks to more than 130,000 donors globally.
The video was a cornerstone component of communications and stewardship activities marking the close of the campaign that aimed to thank campaign donors and volunteers and demonstrate the impact of the campaign across Cambridge and the wider world.
We wanted the video to engage and inspire our global audiences. The video harnesses the campaign’s distinctive creative concept of a letter to the world. It creates a conversation through questions that draw together Cambridge’s heritage of discovery over eight centuries with the advancements enabled by the campaign over the last eight years and the work still to be done.
The video portrays the global reach of Cambridge through diverse voices and the breadth of issues being tackled. It expresses impact through people rather than numbers, featuring famous alumni, current academics and students, and celebrates the past while laying the foundation for future fundraising. It was the result of a three-day shoot across 10 locations in Cambridge and the UK.
