Joe's Basketball Diaries
From the Nominator
"Joe’s Basketball Diaries is an innovative long-form video series created by University of Toronto Communications. The six-episode original series uses Toronto’s affinity for sports—and basketball in particular—as a jumping off point to explore a range of topics that impact us as a city and as a collective, including race, inclusivity, leadership, equity, and global citizenship.
Hosted by U of T Vice-President, International (and basketball fan) Joseph Wong, the series features guests from within and outside the university. It is part of an ongoing effort to demonstrate how the university brings forward bold, innovative ideas and addresses complex global issues.
It also helped bring the university’s people—as well as its brand—to new audiences."
From the Judges
This is a creative and engaging way to spotlight the institution while connecting with people outside of the University of Toronto. Using a neutral topic like basketball as a platform to discuss tough issues with an intentional mix of guests was highly effective. Specifically, the rapid fire five were fun to watch and a great way to build audience through outreach on multiple channels.
