NYU Alma Mater Video
From the Nominator
"In May 2022, NYU held two all-university commencements on the same day. The morning event was for the Class of 2022 and the afternoon event was for the Classes of 2021 and 2020. The NYU Alma Mater video was made for graduates in all three classes who were celebrating their graduations at the first in-person commencement exercises since 2019. The events were held in Yankee Stadium with videos shown to the graduates and their families from the stadium's Jumbotron. Just coming back from the isolation of the pandemic, it was more important than ever to celebrate our students, our history, and the fact that we were all together again after the pandemic had kept us apart.
NYU is a large urban institution with 19 schools in New York City and 15 global locations. Our size and reach can sometimes make the marking of traditions complicated at best. About 15 years ago, the university stopped featuring the alma mater during the all-university commencement exercises. For 2022, a year when we were looking to reignite our traditions, it was the right time to feature the alma mater in a video as told and sung by students.
The crowds at both gatherings, over 40,000 at each, were very excited to see the video. It also got a lot of attention on NYU's social media channels."
