"Transform Property Into Legacy"
From the Nominator
"Transform Property Into Legacy" presents to prospective donors the various options for making a gift of real estate to the University of Virginia. Prior to this publication, information on gifts of real estate was spread across several single-sheet leave-behinds. This piece aggregates that information to better direct conversations about the benefits of donating property.
The copy clearly describes four ways to give real estate. Hypothetical examples illustrate the benefits to the donor of each gift type, and a chart in the back allows for comparison. The gift examples and list of schools and programs both emphasize how gifts of real estate can be designated for any of the university's schools and programs, an important message for UVA's Office of Gift Planning, which operates under a service model. University Advancement gift planning fundraisers work with fundraisers in all these schools and programs to secure planned gifts.
The images throughout the piece illustrate the types of property a donor can give and evoke the landscape of Charlottesville, the home of the University of Virginia and a region much beloved by our alumni. Two spreads feature photos of people that reflect the age of the intended audience.
"Transform Property Into Legacy" was distributed to fundraisers attending a gift-planning education session and has received positive feedback on its clarity, beauty, and usefulness.
From the Judges
It is not often that you see a planned giving piece that is focused solely on real estate. In a very thoughtful and succinct way, this case articulated the opportunity that donors have. The design was warm and inviting.
