Berkeley Haas 125th Anniversary Issue
From the Nominator
This issue of Berkeley Haas magazine celebrates our school’s 125th anniversary with the theme "125 Years of Reimagining Business." We took the theme to heart, reimagining what an anniversary issue could be (no timelines or sepia-toned historical photos), while showcasing how Haas’ pioneering achievements of the past have led to even more groundbreaking accomplishments. In other words, we put a forward-looking spin on an article celebrating history. Ultimately, we wanted to instill even greater pride in members of the Haas community. The feature stories supplied the content for talking points, speeches, news articles, social media, public relations pitches, and appeals during our anniversary celebration. More broadly, this content is allowing the whole Haas community to learn, in bite-size chunks, the many ways in which Berkeley Haas has changed the world. We received a lot of positive feedback from alumni, staff, professors, and leaders of other business schools. One member of the Haas community wrote in to say that the issue “made me prouder to be part of Haas than I think anything ever has.”
From the Judges
We appreciated the hard work, especially during challenging times in the industry. We liked the creativity and originality of the issue. This forward-looking history is an ambitious challenge that Berkeley Haas pulled off beautifully. The critical mass of greatest hits, important research, and pivotal innovations builds a strong case for the school's influence. The research is impressive, and the organization is clear and smart. The decision to use only color photography and modern illustration creates a contemporary, anti-nostalgic feeling.
