Bostonia, Boston University's Alumni Magazine
From the Nominator
Through intelligent, substantive, and expertly written and edited articles, vivid photography, and energetic design, Bostonia is committed to telling the stories that reflect Boston University's (BU's) intellectual life and vibrancy in ways that often are relevant to current social, political, and scientific trends. The magazine strives to foster an emotional connection between alumni and the university, demonstrate BU’s enduring value to our graduates, and engage alumni around the world with stories that inspire, inform, entertain, and spark pride. We post stories online from the print magazine three times a year (winter-spring, summer, and fall). The magazine publishes five or so main features per issue, and each one is designed from scratch for the web. Alumni told us in a recent survey that they enjoy reading about other alums in their field, plus news from the university and their schools and colleges. We provide this mix by updating the home page regularly with new alumni stories and new class notes (searchable by school/college and year of graduation), as well as shared content from the university’s daily news site (BU Today) and research site (The Brink).
From the Judges
Clean, clear, and informative, Bostonia leads its readers through a wealth of material in a polished and appealing way. We liked how it seamlessly aggregated material from multiple publications and sites and focused on general-interest stories that go well beyond a celebration of the institution.
