Fall 2023 Issue of EHS: The Magazine
From the Nominator
For families, prospective families, alumni, and friends, EHS: The Magazine of Episcopal High School strives to provide a 360-degree view of life on our 100% boarding school campus. The Advancement Office used this issue as a strategic tool to garner support among our constituencies, as we are in the midst of a historic $150 million campaign. The cover story honored alumni in the armed forces, spanning 60 years of service, from a naval captain from the class of 1959 to an Army second lieutenant from the class of 2019. The story originated as a response to comments received by older alumni who felt the school had perhaps strayed from its long, proud history of having alumni serve in the armed forces. We felt this indicated deeper questioning about our mission and wanted to reinforce that the school’s values have not changed but rather have strengthened and become more inclusive. With alumni who span nine decades, we take great pride in publishing material where everyone can see themselves. The results were overwhelmingly positive, with anecdotal evidence coming in from parents, alumni, faculty, and staff alike. The alumnus who originally questioned our alumni in the armed forces sent a follow-up email after publication, expressing his great appreciation for our coverage of this topic.
