Georgia Magazine Back-to-Back Cover
From the Nominator
For the cover of the Spring 2023 issue, our magazine editor, Eric Rangus, had the idea of shooting our two College Football Playoff National Championship trophies together. So our photo team of four photographers, working with our magazine designer, set out to shoot the trophies. The photo team set up several days ahead of time to shoot and test, with a pretend makeshift trophy. Then on the day that Athletics brought us the trophies, we were ready. As it turned out, the trophies photographed very differently and we had to make adjustments. The entire setup and execution of taking the photo was a complete team effort between the photographers, designer, editor, a student, and even a husband of one of our photographers. We wrote a blog article for the University Photographers' Association of America about the entire process and how everyone contributed--it tells a better story about how we created the photos for the entry: https://upaa.org/art-collaboration.
From the Judges
The cover is compelling. The dynamic photograph, enhanced by confetti, effectively draws attention to the trophies. This strong image creates pride among alumni and highlights the school's creativity and collaborative spirit.
