Giving Tuesday: Raising Money to Combat Food Insecurity at CSU
From the Nominator
Giving Tuesday at Colorado State University was Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2023, and benefitted the Rams Against Hunger Meal Swipe Program, a donor-funded initiative that combats food insecurity at CSU. Meal credits are loaded onto students’ RamCards and can be redeemed in any campus dining hall. Since 2014, CSU’s Giving Tuesday fundraising campaign has exclusively supported the Rams Against Hunger Meal Swipes Program. In 2023, Rams Against Hunger applications were historically high, so our campaign efforts were more important than ever. Starting Nov. 1, we executed a robust promotional strategy, which included postcards, emails, social media posts, social advertisements, print and digital advertisements, football game-day promotions, campus news articles, and partnerships with the president’s office, colleges, units, and more. Our giving day landing page went live to accept early gifts generated by our promotional efforts. On Nov. 27 and 28, we deployed our direct solicitation phase. Solicitations reached more than 100,000 entities through email, text, calling, social media, digital, and an on-campus event. Over those 48 hours, 1,331 donors made 842 gifts to Rams Against Hunger, resulting in $95,967 for the meal swipe program. One meal swipe is valued at $10, so this translated into 9,596 meal swipes distributed to Rams Against Hunger students. There were several additional gifts that came in before and after those two days, but those are not reflected in these results.
From the Judges
This giving day was a great example from start to finish. The campaign was able to educate donors, while also providing donors with effect impact reporting and stewardship. A very cohesive campaign.
