One Ball State Day: The Spirit of Beneficence
From the Nominator
One Ball State Day's success can be attributed to advanced planning, a diverse array of engaging events, and the unwavering support of the entire Ball State community. The top-down buy-in of our favorite day on campus is as essential as the units that, without being prompted, conduct their own meetings, create matching gifts, invest in window clings, and set up info tables the first Wednesday of every April. The crowning achievement of One Ball State Day wasn't raising $1.2 million in one day--it was the engagement of the campus, the community, and our alumni. As a foundation, we set our sights on uniting alumni, students, employees, and other constituents in a day to help Ball State fly. The result was an increase in campus and alumni ambassadors (and how much they raised), 100% of deans issuing a personally funded challenge or match, raising more than $1 million in one day for two consecutive years, and receiving more than 7,500 gifts from donors around the world. Just five years ago, we had not received more than 250 gifts in a single day. We have created an energetic approach to fundraising, one that involves the entire Ball State community, inspires philanthropy, and educates students about private giving. Our university was founded by the Ball family on the spirit of beneficence, and the beloved campus statue of Beneficence (affectionately known as Benny) is a reminder to us all. Philanthropy is who we are.
