UConn Magazine – Basketball Capital of the World Photos
From the Nominator
The fifth University of Connecticut men’s basketball national championship title in under 25 years deserved a big moment in the subsequent issue of UConn Magazine, out two months after the title game. Knowing the issue with five distinct commemorative covers would be a collectible for many alums and Husky fans, we wanted to ensure that the cover story reflected the big moments of the win and the celebrations that followed. UConn Athletics Staff Photographer Austin Bigoney, just a few years out of undergrad himself, caught those moments with stunning photos that bring you right into the action. The middle of the confetti celebration. Coach Dan Hurley’s outsized reactions. Practically looking up the nostrils of guard Andre Jackson Jr. (in a good way!) as he throws his head back in joy. The glee on Adama Sanogo’s face as he hoists up the trophy on the top of a double decker bus, parading through the streets of Hartford in front of seas of fans. An electric embrace between Coach and Jordan Hawkins. Donavan Clingan cuddling a trophy like a baby on the airplane home. The collection of photos perfectly illustrated UConn Magazine’s “Basketball Capital of the World” feature with moments to remember for a lifetime.
