John P. Donohue
John Donohue was appointed Vice President for College Advancement at The College of New Jersey (TCNJ) in October 2012. His portfolio of responsibility includes senior administrative leadership to development, alumni engagement, communications, marketing, brand management, and government and community relations. He also serves as executive director of TCNJ Foundation, the nonprofit, tax-exempt corporation that solicits, receives, and administers gifts, bequests, and trusts for the benefit of the College. In addition, he serves as the president of the Trenton State College Corporation (TSCC), which oversees faculty/staff and specialty housing programs, strategic property acquisition, and management of college-owned property off campus.
Since Donohue joined TCNJ, philanthropic support to the college has increased five-fold. In addition, he oversaw the successful launch and execution of the college’s first comprehensive campaign, which exceeded its $40 million goal by more than $7.5 million; the redesign of the college’s visual identity, including the official college seal and various logos; and the re-engagement of alumni through enhanced programming and outreach.
Donohue has more than 40 years of accomplished experience in fundraising and advancement work. Prior to joining TCNJ, he served as Executive Vice President for Development at the United Negro College Fund (UNCF), where he raised more than $650 million over an eight-year period. He also enjoyed successful tenures at Dillard University, the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA), the State University of New York at Stony Brook, and the United Way of Long Island.
Donohue is a graduate of the State University of New York at Oswego and attended the Institute for Educational Management at Harvard University. He is actively involved in numerous professional, civic, and business associations and is a staunch supporter of professional development opportunities for his staff.
