Bio

Charles M. Peterson Charles M. Peterson has a B.A. from Carleton, M.D. from Columbia, and M.B.A. from University of California. He was chief medical resident at Harlem Hospital and Rockefeller Hospitals. At Rockefeller for 11 years, he developed basic and clinical research for sickle cell disease, iron overload, alcoholism and diabetes. He spent 14 years at the nonprofit Sansum Medical Research Institute in Santa Barbara. He was Director of the Division of Blood Diseases and Resources of the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute of NIH for 10 years then joined the Telemedicine and Advanced Technology Research Center at the Medical Research and Materiel Command of the Army and Senior Advisor to the latter through 2016. He currently serves as President of MarquiSci, Acting Chief Medical Officer at Critical Link LLC, and as a Medical Director at the Hagerstown Treatment Center for Opioid Use Disorders. Scientific highlights are drugs for sickle cell disease and thalassemia, hemoglobin A1c as a measure of longer term “control” in diabetes mellitus, discovery of an assay for alcohol consumption over time, the first use of atomic force microscopy to visualize cells, a noninvasive optics measure of analytes , 15 U.S. patents,7 IND/IDEs, and 400+ publications.
