Navigating Todays Fundraising in a Post-Pandemic Era
As fundraisers, we must face the reality that our practices and methodologies have been built based on the traditions and one-size-fits-all approaches. Now, as the world reopens after a pandemic that has changed life forever, we are presented with a critical inflection point that causes us to reevaluate our practices to reach a larger donor base that is diverse in its cultures and approach to philanthropy.
As this cultural moment shapes our future, fundraising is overdue for fundamental changes to the way it operates. Our ability to reach donors to sustain operations and truly achieve the success we seek through our missions relies on it. Our current fundraising climate is changing, more diverse, and differently positioned from traditionally established donor engagement strategies as a result of the pandemic.
We are in a time where the fundraising profession must redefine itself by widening its barriers of entry to include, promote, and recognize more members of our society. To accomplish this goal, it is not just about shifting our channels, messaging, and language to speak to a broader donor base. It is more about transforming the face of giving by transforming the profession.
The goal for fundraisers must be to meet all donors where they are. This effort has never been more critical given the recent pandemic and current pressing social challenges. Now, in a post-pandemic world, fundraising professionals and organizations find themselves having continuously redefine themselves in order to widening its barriers of entry to include, promote, and recognize more donors with the goal of raising more dollars.
This session will facilitate a discussion on how fundraisers are approaching this new post-pandemic landscape and look at what new strategies are being incorporated to help connect and build relationships that will lead to new fundraising opportunities.
Upon completion of this session, those in attendance will be able to:
- Assess their organization’s donor landscape - who are they, where are they, which events they attend, and where do they give?
- Adapt non-traditional fundraising cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship methods developed during the pandemic to help build relationships within communities of color.
- Suggest ideas that may influence how their institutions integrate new fundraising approaches into their operations.
- Examine current and emerging trends influencing fundraising post-pandemic and develop strategies to adapt to the current climate.
- Be aware of and effectively manage a much broader group of stakeholders that previously may have been an afterthought.
- Be responsive to our changing environment to ensure that our institutional operations are equipped to engage various types of donors using a wide range of techniques.
