Other Duties As Assigned
Other Duties As Assigned. We all have them. Sometimes we know what they are, other times we have no idea what to expect. Fortunately, this grey area allows us to be flexible in determining how to re-group, re-set and move forward. The COVID-19 pandemic was no exception. At University of California San Diego Other Duties As Assigned provided an opportunity to try non-conventional means of pipeline development. Join us for an interactive conversation discussing programs such as Triton Table Talk’s, Triton Connection’s, and Alumni 101’s. Hear how UC San Diego leveraged Other Duties As Assigned to amplify their impact.

Lifting Kryptonite: What Superman Taught Me About Crafting Proposals to Save the World
The classic 1978 film Superman, starring Christopher Reeve, has always been one of my favorites. One night, after struggling on a proposal, I decided to give the film another look—and discovered that a pivotal scene related to my work. Not only is the film entertaining, it has some surprising insights into human nature, and has helped to guide every case and proposal I've written since. In fact, we now use it to teach our team and faculty how to write, and it's become a favorite session. Superman keeps on saving the world... learn how he can save your ask, too.

Meeting the Moment: Engaging Alumni Who Champion Racial Equity in their Workplaces
2020 catalyzed a global conversation on racial injustices, and this extended to our work in educational advancement. In 2021, the UCLA Alumni Association hosted their inaugural Change Makers Summit: Racial Equity at Work, a virtual conference to convene alumni around the US to share best practices on issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion in the workplace. UCLA Alumni Association staff will share about their initiative, and also facilitate a dialogue on how institutions may identify relevant ways to engage their alumni that champion diversity, equity, and inclusion in their workplaces. This session will explore the virtual summit structure for events.

Inspiring Creativity
"Creativity is intelligence having fun," said Albert Einstein. Despite its reputation as an organic "aha!" moment, creativity is a practiced art and disciplined skill. This workshop highlights six interactive creativity principles (read: out of your chairs, everyone!) to jumpstart ideas, say "yes" to possibilities and actually have fun while working. Attendees will leave with exercises to take back to their teams to ideate and create solutions to advancement strategies including publications, digital communications, campaigns, events, donor recognition and more.

Building a Meaningful Stewardship Program for Transformational Donors
As Berkeley launched our $6 billion campaign, we understood that to be truly successful, we needed to think about stewardship in new ways. We took this opportunity to reimagine our approach to Berkeley’s most important 10-15 principal gift level donors and families. The goal of our program is to reflect the institutional impact of these transformational donors in ways that are meaningful and personal. Whether you are hoping to build a custom program, or want to learn more about principal gift stewardship, you will hear insights on how to sustain donor relationships long after the close of your campaign.

The Power of Pitching
If you're like me, you have 22 magazine, web, and social media content suggestions, no staff writer, no video producer, and no graphic designer — and VPs, deans, and program heads asking, "What have you done for me lately?" That's where I found the Power of Pitching can turn your frown emoji into a smiling one. Using the power of story pitching, I'll show you how to select and prioritize the best content to tell your organization's story in a way that resonates with your brand. Bonus: Your VPs, deans, and programs heads will love you.

Fundraising Beyond Borders
This case-study presentation shares how we aligned a non-profit's mission and vision to the Rady School of Management Dean's vision of strengthening our students, alumni, and faculty knowledge and relationship with other entrepreneurs in our region, mainly across Mexico. Our location as a research Business School in San Diego is strategic in building bridges to innovate and integrate our cities. The Border Innovation Challenge was born as a business plan competition, supported by top leaders from both sides of the border, to find solutions to make our legal border crossings and trade safer and more effective.
