This session will work through case studies at two institutions, on both the gift and records side, to achieve the goal of best representing your work.

CASE’s new Global Reporting Standards address the dynamic landscape of an ever-evolving advancement profession. This new, first edition, comes at a time when the increasing size and complexity of gifts require clear standards and guidelines for counting and reporting for all types of institutions regardless of location. Join CASE’s Library Director Cindy Moon-Barna and Senior Strategic Consultant Jenny Cooke Smith to learn more what’s included in the new standards, why they matter, and how key significant decisions will impact your work. You will also learn how the standards will apply to positions across advancement and institutional research, and how you can take on a leadership role to help incorporate them.

- Managing Complex Gifts

In today's ever evolving tax landscape it is important to understand how to properly assess processing regarding tax implications of gift acceptance and gift processing standards. We will navigate through the matrix of rules that are set for gifts-in-kind donations; counting items accepted for auctions; walk through the in-depth assessment process taken to accept gifts for the University; and explain the distinction for University versus Foundation gifts.
We will discuss how to handle tax questions while maintaining ethical and common sense practices that ensure you are following all of the rules from the finance and IRS perspectives. We will explore gifts and records issues that merit extra consideration and discussion around counting, credit, security, intent or execution. We will explore pledges, giftsinkind, securities and other complex gifts as well as best practices for accepting and processing these gifts. We will also explore IRS requirements as well as ethical questions that can arise in the acceptance and processing of gifts. - Engagement Data Everlasting: Building Better Engagement Data Processes and Instilling Best Practices

How do you operationalize the tracking of engagement data and ensure data processing specialists are utilizing engagement data management best practices? Explore how NC State Advancement Services and Gifts and Records Management leadership built a process for tracking engagement data effectively and leveraged new and old data entry practices. Based on the combined groundwork of the CASE metrics task force and the NC State engagement workgroup, this session will focus on how to organize, name, submit, and code your engagement data. How should you recommend data makes its way to your Gifts and Records office? How do you minimize duplicative or erroneous coding? What is engagement data and why is it important? How do you ensure your team is trained to follow your engagement data processes effectively? We'll describe our best practices for these crucial data management processes at NC State.

Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging in Gifts and Records

We know that respectful and accurate data management has been a critical part of building strong relationships with our constituents. As widespread cultural awareness of diverse identities has increased, sometimes our biographical data management practices lag behind. Join us to talk about how to improve your data processes to be sure they are respectful and inclusive of all identities. We'll examine some creative ideas and strategies used to include appropriate data even while hurdling over possible CRM limitations.
The faculty and guest speaker panel will discuss ways to increase and continually learn cultural sensitivities and improve your processes to reflect respect and inclusivity.
