Engage Your Alumni with the 7 Basic Plots of Storytelling
Stories are like a magic lamp.
They have the power to make our wishes come true.
A strong narrative can inspire our alumni and prospects to donate their time and money.
We need compelling stories. But where do we start? Well, why not start with the basics?
Every memorable story is structured around one of the 7 basic plots of storytelling:
1. Overcoming the monster
2. Rags to riches
3. Voyage and return
4. The quest
5. Comedy
6. Tragedy
7. Redemption.
By understanding and embracing these 7 plots, we can craft stories that will excite, engage, and educate our audiences.

Elective session- Raising Gifts that Keep on Giving: Blending Legacies and Major Gifts to secure large gifts for today AND tomorrow
Hear how the University of Bristol has developed a new programme and strategy to maximise income from legacy audiences by engaging legacy pledgers and enquirers with complimentary lifetime giving, and conversely mid-level and major lifetime donors with planned legacy gifts. Many programmes have historically viewed these as separate and sometimes competing areas, and yet the synergy and benefits to institutions AND the donors are numerous.

Elective session- Things I wish I’d known when I started a regular giving programme. 6 lessons from the data which could improve anyone’s programme
Phil Simpson of Durham University spoke compellingly at CASE’s Donor Relations conference earlier this year about celebrating 30 years of continuous giving by some of Durham’s alumni. Adrian was leading the regular giving programme at Durham when they started giving. In this session Adrian will draw out six lessons from More Partnership’s analysis of more than 60 regular giving programmes, reflecting on the things he’d loved to have known when those donors started giving.
